Law firm website builders, compared

If your firm already runs on practice software with a website builder (Clio, RunSensible), start there. If you want someone else to run the site, a legal web platform like Justia Elevate or LawLytics. If you want the lowest monthly cost and will build it yourself, Wix or Squarespace. If you want a site written for your kind of practice that you own outright, WordPress with a law firm theme.

We sell one of these options: the WordPress law firm themes on this site. Our row is in the same table at the same level of detail, and every other price comes from the vendor's own page.

AI website builders. AI website builders (Manus, Replit, Playcode, Mobirise) also rank for these searches. They generate a site from a prompt and charge by usage credits rather than for a law firm product, so there is no comparable price to put in the table. Whatever they generate still needs the practice pages, attorney pages and bar advertising notice a law firm site needs, checked by you.

Which one fits

You already pay for practice software

If your firm runs on Clio or RunSensible and your plan includes the website, the intake form feeds straight into your case management. Check which plan includes it before you count on it.

You don't want to touch the site

A legal web platform hosts, writes and maintains it for a monthly fee. Ask for the setup fee and what happens to the site if you leave.

Look at: Justia Elevate, LawLytics

You want the lowest monthly cost

A general builder is cheapest to start and you build it yourself. You write every practice page and the bar notice, and the site stays on that platform.

Look at: Wix, Squarespace

You want to own it and move it later

WordPress runs on any host and any developer can work on it. A law firm theme starts you with the pages a firm needs, written for your kind of practice.

You build sites for several firms

A theme licensed for many sites, on hosting you control, keeps each client's site portable when the client moves on.

Law firm website builder questions

What is the best website builder for a law firm?

It depends on what you already use and how much you want to do yourself. Practice software with a builder (Clio, RunSensible) suits firms already on that software; a legal web platform (Justia Elevate, LawLytics) suits firms that want it run for them; Wix or Squarespace suits a do-it-yourself site at the lowest monthly cost; WordPress with a law firm theme suits firms that want a site written for their practice that they own.

Does Clio include a website?

Clio's website builder page says law firm websites are "included in the price of all Clio Expand subscriptions", while its current pricing page lists the website builder only in the Elite plan, whose price isn't published. Check with Clio which plan you'd need.

Can I move my law firm website later?

With WordPress, yes: the files and database move to any host. Wix sites can't be hosted elsewhere, and Squarespace's export leaves out styles and most page types. Of the legal platforms here, only LawLytics states on its site that you can take the site with you; for the others, ask before you sign.

Do I need a lawyer-specific website builder?

No, but the site needs lawyer-specific pages: one per practice area, attorney profiles, a cost page and the bar's advertising notice. A general builder leaves those to you; a legal builder or a law firm theme starts you with them.

How much does a law firm website cost per month?

From the published prices: Wix from $17 and Squarespace from $19 a month billed annually, Justia Elevate from $82.50 a month billed annually, and practice-software builders inside plans priced per user. A WordPress site with a law firm kit is $99 a year for the theme plus hosting. Clio, CosmoLex and LawLytics don't publish their website prices.

Is WordPress safe for a law firm website?

WordPress runs a large share of the web, including Justia's own law firm platform. Keep WordPress and plugins updated, use a reputable host, and add as few plugins as you can. The 7 kits here are block themes with no page builder and one free plugin.
